Summer in New Jersey Shore

Welcome. We're glad you found your way here.

Life can be hard—especially when you go at it alone.

We're here to be your thought partners, your advocates, and your sounding board to help guide you to a place that feels comfortable and safe.

We will work together in a non-judgmental, collaborative effort to empower you, help you tap into your inner strengths, and achieve your goals.

And sometimes we will call you on your sh*t.

At Helping Minds Heal, we believe that therapy is a collaborative process which is built on the foundation of relationship and trust between client and therapist.

The narrative that we’ve been shown on TV is that therapy is a cold, clinical process where you walk into a dusty office, get shown a chair, and are told to talk about your childhood for 45 minutes straight. From there, the therapist stares at you with intense, glaring, uncomfortable eyes, sometimes nodding their head, and—if you're lucky—saying “mhmm”/“yeah”/“how does that make you feel” until time is up.

That's not how we work. At all.

Instead, we believe that real personal growth happens when you feel like you can be yourself. That's why, depending on the client(s), sometimes that means we use humor, reference pop culture, curse, play games, or, yes, directly challenge you. Because we care about what actually helps you, not what makes us look like Dr. Freud.

FAQ

How can therapy help me?

Psychotherapy (a.k.a. therapy) can be beneficial for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief, and self-esteem issues. It provides a supportive and confidential environment where you can openly discuss your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your challenges, develop effective coping strategies, and work towards positive change and personal growth.

What can I expect in a therapy session?

In a therapy session, you can expect a non-judgmental, empathetic, and confidential space to discuss your concerns and experiences. Your therapist will listen actively, ask questions, and provide guidance tailored to your unique needs. Sessions may involve open conversations, reflection, exploring patterns and beliefs, and learning practical tools and techniques to manage emotions and improve well-being.

How long does therapy take?

The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some individuals may benefit from short-term therapy that focuses on addressing specific issues, while others may engage in longer-term therapy to explore deeper-rooted patterns and achieve lasting change. Your therapist will work with you to establish a treatment plan and discuss the expected duration based on your individual circumstances.

Is therapy confidential?

Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of therapy. Therapists are bound by ethical and legal obligations to maintain the privacy of your sessions. However, there are certain exceptions where therapists may be required to break confidentiality, such as when there is an immediate risk of harm to yourself or others. Your therapist will explain the limits of confidentiality during the initial sessions.

How often are therapy sessions scheduled?

Therapy session frequency varies depending on individual needs and treatment plans. Initially, sessions may be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly to establish a therapeutic relationship and address immediate concerns. Your therapist will work with you to determine the optimal session frequency for your situation.
