Hanna Otero, Intern

Education & Background

Hanna (she/her) earned a BA in English from the University of California Riverside and began her career as an elementary school teacher through the nonprofit Teach for America. She went on to receive an MA in international journalism from the University of Westminster in London, then spent two decades working in children’s publishing, creating books to help young people understand themselves and the world around them. Today, she is pursuing her MSW at Rutgers University, hoping to use her wide range of professional and personal experiences to support children, teens, adults and couples through challenges like anxiety, depression, and major life transitions. Hanna is LGBTQIA+ affirming.

Approach

Hanna believes that a strong, trusting partnership between therapist and client is the foundation for all therapeutic change. She draws on a variety of approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Theory and Motivational Interviewing, to help clients identify and work toward their goals. She is particularly passionate about helping children, teens, and young adults develop strategies to manage adversity, improve relationships, and fortify self-esteem.
