Who We Are
At Helping Minds Heal, we believe that therapy is a collaborative process which is built on the foundation of relationship and trust between client and therapist.
The narrative that we’ve been shown on TV is that therapy is a cold, clinical process where you walk into a dusty office, get shown a chair, and are told to talk about your childhood for 45 minutes straight. From there, the therapist stares at you with intense, glaring, uncomfortable eyes, sometimes nodding their head, and—if you're lucky—saying “mhmm”/“yeah”/“how does that make you feel” until time is up.
That's not how we work. At all.
Instead, we believe that real personal growth happens when you feel like you can be yourself. That's why, depending on the client(s), sometimes that means we use humor, reference pop culture, curse, play games, or, yes, directly challenge you. Because we care about what actually helps you, not what makes us look like Dr. Freud.
