Melissa Lanman, LSW

Education & Background

Missy (she/her) is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University and more than a decade of experience as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP). Her work in emergency medicine shaped her commitment to trauma-informed, compassionate care and ultimately led her into clinical social work. She is also a 200 hour yoga instructor with training in trauma-sensitive, somatic practices, which she integrates into a holistic, grounded approach to healing. Missy’s interdisciplinary perspective is further informed by her research contributions, including co-authoring a peer-reviewed publication on New Jersey’s ARRIVE Together mental health crisis response program.

Approach

Missy’s therapeutic approach is rooted in trauma-informed, collaborative care and a deep respect for each person’s lived experience. She strives to create a warm, steady, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to move and explore their inner self at a pace that feels safe and meaningful. She blends clinical social work with holistic, mind-body practices, integrating somatic awareness, mindfulness, and emotional regulation skills to support clients in reconnecting with safety and resilience. With a background in emergency medicine and trauma-sensitive yoga. Missy brings a grounded presence and an attunement to how stress, trauma, and emotions are stored and carried in the body. Her approach supports clients to develop insight, strengthen coping tools, and cultivating balance and self-compassion as they navigate their healing journey.
