Mental Health Awareness Month

Dear Clients,

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shed light on the importance of mental and emotional well-being — and to remind one another that caring for our minds is just as vital as caring for our bodies.

As therapists, we witness every day how brave and powerful it is to seek support, face inner struggles, and work toward healing. Whether you’ve been in therapy for years, just started your journey, or are still wondering if you should reach out, this month is for you.

Mental health challenges are incredibly common — and yet, stigma and silence too often surround them. Anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, burnout, and so many other experiences are part of being human. Struggling does not mean you’re weak or failing — it means you’re navigating life with all its complications.

When we speak openly about mental health, we break down shame. We create room for connection. We let people know they don’t have to carry their pain in isolation.

One of the biggest myths about mental health is that it can be “fixed” quickly, or that healing is linear. In reality, mental health is something we tend to — day by day, moment by moment. Some days we feel steady, other days we may feel lost or overwhelmed. That’s okay.

Progress in therapy isn’t measured by perfection. It’s measured by increased awareness, gentler self-talk, stronger boundaries, deeper insight, and the courage to keep showing up — even on the hard days.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a great time to check in with yourself:

  • What do I need more of right now — rest, support, connection, quiet?

  • Are there boundaries I need to set to protect my energy?

  • Who can I talk to when I’m struggling?

  • Am I treating myself with the same compassion I offer others?

Taking care of your mental health might look like therapy, journaling, movement, medication, meditation, talking to a friend, or saying no to something that drains you. There is no one-size-fits-all approach — only what works for you.

To those of you showing up in therapy — even when it’s hard, even when you’re tired — we see you. We are continually inspired by your resilience, your honesty, and your willingness to grow. Thank you for letting us be part of your journey.

With support,
HMHCC
